Why Choose Our ACL Rehabilitation Program?
What does our ACL Rehab Program Entail?
The RSP Approach to ACL Rehabilitation
- Initial Assessment: Your journey begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your injury, including movement analysis and functional testing.
-
Rehabilitation Phases:
- Phase 1: Acute Management & Early Loading – Focus on pain management, swelling reduction, and regaining range of motion.
- Phase 2: Building Strength – Gradual introduction of strength exercises tailored to rebuild muscle around the knee and surrounding areas
- Phase 3: Building Speed & Power – Incorporating plyoemtrics and explosive movements to prepare for sport-specific drills. Will often include your return to running.
- Phase 4: Return to Training – Continue building strength and power to begin returning to sport-specific preparation and returning to training
- Phase 5: Return to Sport & Performance - Final assessments to ensure you’re ready for safe reintegration into your sport. Continue building on performance components that were highlighted throughout your programs.
- Integrated Strength & Conditioning Programs: We combine physiotherapy with strength and conditioning programs to enhance your recovery and performance. This dual approach ensures that you not only heal but also build resilience against future injuries.

Many patients are able to return to their pre-injury level of activity after ACL surgery and rehabilitation, but this can depend on several factors, including the severity of the injury, the type of surgery performed, and the individual's overall health and fitness level. Your physiotherapist can work with you to create a plan that will help you achieve your rehabilitation goals and safely return to your desired activities.

Your physiotherapist will create a personalized exercise program that may include a range of exercises to help strengthen the muscles around the knee, improve flexibility and range of motion, and improve overall function. Our clinic has a large gym to perform such exercises as leg presses, knee extensions, squats, and lunges, as well as balance and coordination exercises. The frequency and duration of these exercises will depend on your individual needs and progression. Our physiotherapists are expertly trained in the rehabiliation of ACL injuries. Common challenges or setbacks during ACL rehabilitation can include pain, swelling, and limited range of motion. Your physiotherapist can provide guidance on how to address these challenges, which may include modifying your exercise program, adjusting your pain management plan, or incorporating additional therapies such as massage or acupuncture. We work with a lot ACL clients every year as it is somewhat of a sub-specialty of the clinic, so we have seen it all and are very confident you’ll progress under our care.
